I love you Iceland!
The second picture in this NY times article about Iceland is full of win. Why don't we have something like that here? Too much class warfare? Anyway, don't ever change Iceland!

A New Area Has Been UNLOCKED!
There's a new record store that opened up here in Arcata that I'm going to go check out this afternoon: Missing Link Records. They sound promising, anyways. And they have this video on their blog which was so awesome I had to steal it:

Is that a St. Rogers medallion?
Just discussed with robocowboy: getting Mr. Rogers canonized. Everyone can agree with the awesomeness of Mr. Rogers. Everyone with a soul, anyway. I would wear the shit out of a St. Rogers medallion, patron saint of ???, and totally have St. Rogers candles lit around my home, letting me know it's ok to be me, because people like me just the way I am.

Prepare to have your minds blown

G8 Summit leaders edited like an anime intro with a j-pop theme. Stolen from poetv. Whoever made this needs to stop intruding on my dreams. At least no one knows about the one where Dick Cheney and I fight in giant robotic suits... oops.

I'm watching Contact right now and I'm definitely feeling like this movie was ahead of its time. I'm getting the same vibe from the protesters in the film as I have from some of the people talking about the LHC.

County Fair Day Three
I had yesterday off, so I went and ate delicious food, drank some beers and hung out with my girlfriend. Today I worked at the fair again. The weather was nicer, so I got a little sun today. One of our reps from our chemical company was also there today, so I had someone to talk to to help the time pass. We traded spa/chemical horror stories. People are really amazing, given the anecdotal evidence. Also, a woman rolled up with her husband asking about tubs, just chilling breastfeeding her baby right there, boob hanging out. I couldn't even do it; I had to excuse myself. Maybe it's a sales tactic: "Honey, we're off to look at new cars, get ready to whip your tit out!" C'mon.

County Fair Day One
The fair opened today. It'll run for 9 more days. Things are going well so far. The cannonballeer this year is the patriarch of a family of human cannonballs. He's _66_!!! Awesome. The booth next to us is selling "Perfect Water." You can Google that shit, but suffice to say snake-oil, yo, snake-oil. As a chemist, that shit OFFENDS ME. "Microstructured water?" "Remineralization?" FUCK YOU. I hope you die in a fire. On the other hand, it was very slow today and they had four people there working, err... wasting their time. Upon Googling, it looks like this some of the ol' pyramid scheme/MLM bullshit. This will make my days even better as I contemplate their pending fiscal and emotional destruction.

Last words, courtesy of Penn & Teller: "Bottled water? BULLSHIT!"

I had to check to see if Battlestar was one word or two... I apologize
I worked 13 hours today so I was a little tuckered out when I got home tonight. At least the sun was still up. It'd be depressing to leave at night and get home in the dark too. I crashed out for a bit and then was woken up by one of my buddies telling me he got engaged over the weekend. Awesome! What's up with all you responsible people getting married? Oh, wait... Well, I'll be the perennial "wacky uncle" then.

Seeing The Incredible Hulk made me all nostalgic for Bill Bixby, so I checked out the pilot for another of his old TV shows, The Magician. When I was a kid we lived way out in the boonies so we never had cable but we did have satellite, so I had the Sci-Fi Channel from back in the day, back when they didn't have any programming yet and would just air that footage from the probe that flew over Venus or Mars with a bunch of color effects. Pretty cool, actually. Then they actually started airing shows, mostly stuff they could buy the rights to cheaply, like the old Battlestar Galactica and V: The Series. Oh, and Kolchak The Night Stalker!!! That's a whole other post. But they also ran The Magician and I loved it as a kid. Bill Bixby fucking people up with razor sharp playing cards and driving a sweet car? Hells yeah! Also, it's inspired by The Count of Monte Cristo. Here's the opening from the pilot and then the regular opening:

Hope springs eternal
One of my buddies owns a Wii and I've been playing No More Heroes on that, doing the whole "Why don't I come over and play your game?"-thing. I am only ranked number 7 so far, but I'll be number 1 someday. Anyway, it looks like those crazy guys from Clover Studios are releasing a game under a new studio: Madworld.

robocowboy this means you have to finish God Hand now. You have no choice.
